Fish were flying at the front gate pond…

Children and parents gathered at the LOWA front gate lake, Saturday, June 17 th for the 24 th Annual Children’s Fishing Tournament. Sixty-three kids ages 5-14 were baiting hooks using live bait and quickly hauling in fish, then carrying them to the weigh-in tables. During the 2 hour competition time, 211 blue gill, bass, perch and sunfish were caught and released by 63 contestants.

Even the parents got into the spirit of competition by buying tickets for the 50/50 Raffle that raised $154 for the lucky winner and an equal amount for the Lake Youth Foundation scholarship program. A big thank you to all who donated cash to Lake Youth Foundation’s non-profit corporation.

Trophies were awarded in each age group for Heaviest, Longest and the Most Fish Caught. The winners in the Age 5-6 group were Winston Mann, Silas Farmer and Ben Porter. The Age 7-8 group winners were Charlotte Pintade, Colt Pettis and Arabel Linville. The Age 9-11 group winners were Eric de la Rosa, Jason Mills and Blakeleigh Dorta. The Age 12-14 group winners were Brodie Linville, Brenna Reid and Jake Betz.

Congratulations to all the winners! And to all who participated. Keep practicing in the big lakes and we’ll see you next year. Big thank you to all the volunteers who make this event possible, especially those who don’t mind handling fish!
